The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Chilean, Argentinean, Venezuelan, and Mexican embassies in Vietnam jointly held a seminar on the 200th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Latin American region.

During the seminar, attended by the Argentinean and Venezuelan Ambassadors to Vietnam, the temporary representatives of Mexico and Chile, and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Central Party Commission for External Relations, participants reviewed the independence campaigns of Latin American countries, starting in 1810.

The Argentinean Ambassador said Argentina is committed to developing education and public health, and education has helped five Argentinean scientists win the Nobel prizes.

The Chilean Ambassador said the country’s joining the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development is a mark of its success.

There are still heavy challenges facing countries in this century, said the Mexican representative, adding that he hopes 2010 will be a breakthrough year in educational and technological development.

The Venezuelan Ambassador, meanwhile, said 2010 is a year of festivals - Vietnam’s Thang Long-Hanoi millennial festival and Latin America’s 200th anniversary of its Independence Day.

The VUFO representative expressed his hope that solidarity and friendship between Latin American countries and Vietnam will increase.
