Lao students in Son La province celebrate New Year festival

The Tay Bac University held a programme on April 13 to celebrate the traditional New Year of Laos – Bunpimay for hundreds of Lao students studying in the northwestern province of Son La.

The annual Bunpimay festival often takes place from April 13-16, becoming a cultural custom that has been practised for long in Laos.

This year’s programme includes two parts: a cultural exchange between Vietnamese and Lao students, and the festival’s rituals.

Vice rector of the university Doan Duc Lan said the annual activity aims to forge connections between Vietnamese and Lao students, through which tightening the solidarity and friendship between the two countries in general.

The Tay Bac University is a prestigious training centre of human resources, scientific research and technological transfer for Laos. 

Eight northern Lao provinces have friendly relations and signed comprehensive cooperation agreements with Son La.
