Landslide leaves two dead, three injured in Northern Vietnam
VOV.VN - Two local residents have bene killed and three others injured after a landslide destroyed two houses in Khe Que village of Xuan Ai commune, Lao Cai province, on the night of July 13.

According to local authorities, the landslide occurred at 9:25pm, burying one concrete house and one wooden house. Approximately 2,000 cubic metres of soil and rock slid down the hill, engulfing the two homes.
Local authorities confirmed that all members of both households were at home at the time the landslide struck. Rescue teams arrived within minutes and successfully pulled five individuals from the rubble.
Of the five, two were critically injured. Despite immediate first aid efforts by medical personnel at the scene, both succumbed to their injuries.

Luu Trung Kien, party secretary of Xuan Ai commune, said the commune is continuing to address the aftermath of the landslide while providing support to the families in arranging funeral services for the unfortunate victims.
The northern mountainous region is experiencing a prolonged spell of heavy rain. Rain saturates the soil, reducing cohesion and causing unstable slopes, which easily leads to landslides.
Provinces such as like Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Cao Bang, and Son La have steep, high mountains with weathered soil and rock that are prone to landslides during or after heavy rain.
