One of the benefactors who have made the most significant contributions to the education sector is Mr Doan Quang Minh from southernmost Ca Mau province.

After the war of resistance against the US ended, Mr Minh - a wounded solider returned to the homeland and witnessed poverty in his hometown. Although local residents were very hardworking, their living standards had not improved. Worst of all, the rate of children attending school remained low. Classrooms in the province had not been upgraded while schools are often very far away from students’ homes. The Ong Doc river made it difficult for them to get to school at all and as a result, some had to quit all together. Mr Minh thought the solution was to build a school in the south of the Ong Doc River to meet the children’s demands for education.

Mr Minh and his family decided to grant 3,000 square metres of his land to build a high school. When the Song Doc 2 high school was established, Mr Minh donated another 4,413 square metres of his land to the province. The newly-built school helps the children of families from the south of the Doc River and neighbouring communes gain easier access to learning.

Mr Minh said he and his family felt very happy to see students playing and studying in the school with modern studying facilities. I hope that our small contribution will bring joyfulness to many families, he said.

Many people expressed their admiration for Mr Minh’s kindness to poor students in his homeland.

 

Ms Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy

Ruby hi-tech joint stock company was established in 1994. The company has paid special attention to education. Since its establishment, the company has developed a number of projects to bring computers to high schools.

General Director of the company Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy hoped that her company will contribute to improving the quality of teaching and studying, especially helping students living in remote areas to access information technology.

Kimberly Clark Vietnam is a renowned company, which was set up in 1997 and specializes in producing sanitary products for women. The company has made a remarkable contribution to Vietnam’s education development through various programmes, including the scholarship fund “Kotex for Vietnamese talented female students”, aimed at providing assistance to outstanding poor female students.

 

Mr Vu Quoc Tuan

The company’s director Vu Quoc Tuan said since it began operation, the fund has granted 3,412 scholarships with a total value of nearly VND4 billion. In addition, Kimberly Clark Vietnam has also launched numerous activities in support of Vietnamese female students, such as healthcare services and consultation programmes on love, marriage and family.

 

 

Vu Thi Bich Loan, director of Thao Loan housing investment and construction Co. Ltd in Ho Chi Minh City, has contributed VND1 billion to help Tien Giang province build schools.

Ms Loan said her company will continue to donate computers to schools in the Mekong Delta provinces of Ben Tre and Vinh Long.

 

At the awards ceremony, she expressed her wish to help build more schools in far-flung areas so that all poor pupils there can have access to education.

 

The Customs Department of central Quang Tri province has provided financial assistance to improve infrastructure and facilities in schools where ethnic minority pupils are studying. Over the past years, the department has upgraded more than 200 classrooms in Quang Tri.

Le Van Toi, head of the department, expressed his hope that with such contributions, more teachers will voluntarily go to areas with difficulties to teach poor ethnic minority pupils.

 

Contributions from businesses and kind-hearted people to education development over the past years are of great significance to the cause of human development and national construction. It is hoped that there will be more valuable and respectable examples like these.
