Delegates from Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar gathered at a sub-regional ministerial telecommunication meeting in the central province of Khanh Hoa on December 11

The meeting, which attracted representatives of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), aims to support sub-regional countries to develop information and communications technologies (ICT) and to boost ICT cooperation between these countries.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Le Nam Thang affirmed Vietnam will continue to share ICT management experience with other sub-regional countries.

He also asked ITU for continued support to the four countries, especially in providing training for managers and exchanging experiences in ICT.

The director of ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau, Sami Al Basheer Al Morsid, spoke highly of Vietnam’s ICT development achievements.

Vietnam is more successful in renovating the ICT sector than other countries with higher per capita incomes, he said, adding that the country should share experiences with other developing countries in the region.

Participants discussed issues related to sustainable development, creating favourable conditions for ICT development, building and developing human resources, and strengthening management institutions and organisations.

The four countries issued a joint communiqué on ICT cooperation in the coming time.
