Japan’s international retailing group AEON Co., Ltd. has donated nearly US$3.1 million to help the central province of Thua Thien-Hue build schools and plant forests.

The commitment was signed on February 26 by representatives of the AEON group and the Thua Thien-Hue provincial People’s Committee.

The Japanese group’s grant of more than US$3 million in non-refundable aid will be used to build 30 new primary schools in Thua Thien-Hue in the next three years.

The group will also send 300 volunteers and provide financial assistance to help the province plant more than 34 hectares of forest in Phu Loc district between now and 2015.
