Japan will provide ¥ 505 million (around US$5.3 million) for a project to strengthen human resources in the healthcare sector in Vietnam.
The five-year project, signed between the Ministry of Health and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Hanoi on May 31, will provide training on practical skills to the staff of Bach Mai, Hue and Cho Ray hospitals - in their three main respective cities of Hanoi, Hue and Ho Chi Minh City during the first phase.
Participants to the project, which is to kick off in July this year, are expected to learn practical knowledge and skills in prioritised areas such as hospital management and anti-bacterial contamination.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Xuyen said Japan’s close cooperation and technical transfer has improved the quality of health services in the three hospitals. She expressed the hope that this project would facilitate Vietnam’s efforts in systematically re-training the manpower in the health sector.
JICA Chief Representative to Vietnam Tsuno Motonori said the project will later be expanded to cover hospitals across the country.
Through this project, he said, the cooperation between Vietnam’s Ministry of Health and JICA would be further developed.
After the signing ceremony, JICA will soon dispatch short and long-term experts to Vietnam for the project’s implementation.
