Japanese universities are ready to receive more Vietnamese students, who want to study and do research in Japan, says Motoo Furuta, president of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association.

Addressing a workshop in Tokyo on October 10, Mr Furuta said that Japanese universities praise Vietnamese students for their hard work and eagerness to study.

Vietnamese ambassador to Japan Nguyen Phu Binh highlighted significant contributions to the homeland made by Vietnamese students in Japan. He called on them to unite and support each other in their lives and study to make a greater contribution to Vietnam and the Vietnamese community in Japan as well.

Delegates heard nearly 100 reports on the exchange of Vietnamese and Japanese students presented by speakers from Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, the Republic of Korea and Canada.

At the workshop, Vietnamese students raised more than US$1,000 to support their compatriots in the central provinces who suffered heavily from the consequences of storm Ketsana two weeks ago.
