The Japanese government has pledged to provide US$156,000 to build a rehabilitation centre for disabled children and roads for the rural northern provinces of Ha Giang and Phu Tho.

The contracts for the non-refundable aid were signed in Hanoi on June 15.

A sum of about US$67,000 will be channeled through the National Fund for Vietnamese Children to Ha Giang province to construct a two-storey building with six rooms, for the provincial rehabilitation centre for disabled children.

Established in 1995, the centre is designed to care for around 3,000 disabled children in Ha Giang province.

The remaining aid worth about US$89,000 will help to upgrade a road in rural Dong Son commune in Phu Tho province’s Tan Son district where most of the people are from ethnic minority groups.

When addressing the signing ceremony, the Japanese Ambassador Mitsuo Sakaba said he believed that the projects will help disabled children in Ha Giang province integrate into society and improve the transport network in Dong Son commune.
