IVF seminar expands access to reproductive support for overseas Vietnamese in Euro

VOV.VN - A specialised seminar on in vitro fertilisation (IVF) for the Vietnamese community in Europe was held at the Sapa Trade Centre in Prague, the Czech Republic on January 31, drawing a large number of overseas Vietnamese.

The event was jointly organised for the first time in Europe by the Viet-Belgium Hospital of Andrology and Infertility, in collaboration with Nhom Lam Cha Me CZ, FertiCare by IVI RMA Group and the Vietnamese Intellectuals Association in Belgium and Luxembourg.

Nguyen de Prelle Quynh Iris, a ViLab member and representative of the organizing board, said the programme aimed to bring the knowledge and professional expertise of Vietnamese-origin doctors closer to the community, while providing an official information channel on IVF for Vietnamese people in the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries.

The seminar brought together specialists in reproductive medicine and andrology from Vietnam and Europe. Key speakers included Dr Jaime Onofre, an early reproductive health specialist with the World Health Organization, currently working at Vrije Universiteit Brussel University Hospital; MSc, MD Hoang Thi Thu Ha; and MSc candidate Doan Thanh Huyen, both professional advisers to the Viet-Belgium Hospital of Andrology and Infertility.

During the programme, experts presented updates on advances in IVF techniques, factors affecting success rates, and current trends in infertility treatment. Notably, developments in artificial intelligence and genetic testing are contributing to marked improvements in treatment effectiveness.

Organisers also underscored a people-centred orientation, with efforts to extend support to vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities or families facing financial constraints but still wishing to have children, a practice rarely seen in high-cost medical services such as IVF.

Hospital representatives said that beyond technology and clinical expertise, the medical team’s understanding of patients’ psychological needs and cultural background also helps improve treatment outcomes.

According to specialists, IVF is no longer limited to infertile couples but has expanded to include young people seeking to preserve fertility through egg or sperm freezing, as well as patients with serious illnesses who wish to have children in the future.

At the seminar, doctors also rejected the perception that infertility is primarily a female issue. Le Nguyen Tung, a founding member of the hospital, said around 50% of infertility cases are attributable to male-related factors, underscoring the need for individual examinations and treatment plans for each patient.

Through consultations, expert discussions and the sharing of practical experience, the seminar provided participants with scientific knowledge as well as professional, legal and cultural considerations relevant to accessing IVF services in Europe, thus helping improve information access for the overseas Vietnamese community.
