The AAG is a 20,000-km, high-bandwidth fiber optic submarine cable system that will connect Southeast Asia to the United States. In its initial stage, the AAG will have a capacity of 500 Gigabits/second and later can be upgraded to 2 Terabits/second through Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology. It can eventually connect to Australia, India, Europe and Africa via the endpoints of the system.

An agreement to build and maintain the AAG was signed in Malaysia on April 27, 2007, with a total investment capital of more than US$553 million, of which VNPT contributed US$40 million.
