First Vice President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Jacques Forster has pledged to further support Vietnam in humanitarian activities and improving the efficiency of the Vietnam Red Cross.

He made the announcement while working with the Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) in Hanoi on December 1.

VRC President and General Secretary Nguyen Van Thuong praised cooperation between ICRC and VRC over the past 30 years.

Operating in Vietnam since 1972, ICRC has coordinated with VRC and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRRC) to help war victims. Since 1975, the ICRC and the IFRRC have cooperated with the Foreign Ministry of Vietnam on social relief activities. Particularly from 1989, ICRC has helped provide artificial limbs and wheelchairs to thousands of poor disabled children in Vietnam.

On the occasion, VRC President Thuong presented the insignia "For the cause of Red Cross" to Jacques Forster in recognition of his contributions to humanitarian activities in Vietnam.
