International organizations have provided US$134.6 million for HIV/AIDS prevention projects in Vietnam from 1999 to 2011, according to the Ministry of Health.

Twenty-nine projects worth US$10.188 million have been completed and 27 other projects worth US$124.5 million are being implemented.

Most of these projects are concentrated in big provinces and cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, An Giang, Can Tho and Khanh Hoa. Up to now, 13 provinces and cities, have not received international support for HIV/AIDS prevention projects. They are Tuyen Quang, Dien Bien, Vinh Phuc, Hung Yen, Bac Kan, Quang Tri, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Kon Tum, Dak Nong, Ninh Thuan, Binh Phuoc and Bac Lieu.

In the near future, the HIV/AIDS prevention programme in Vietnam will run into difficulty as domestic and international support is still far from meeting the growing demand for treatment.
