Int'l conference spotlights podcasts as creative avenue for radio in digital era

VOV.VN - An international conference titled “Podcasting – Creative Avenue Where Radio Meets the Digital Era” was held in Quang Ninh province on April 12 as part of the ongoing 17th National Radio Festival 2026.

According to 2025 statistics, about 144 million people in the United States listen to podcasts each month, up sharply from 90 million in 2015. In Australia, more than half of the population listens to podcasts and regularly tunes in to the national broadcaster Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Major broadcasters in the United Kingdom, Canada and Norway are building multi-platform podcast ecosystems, developing their own applications and expanding their presence on Spotify and YouTube to reach younger audiences.

In Vietnam, podcasts are receiving increasing investment from media agencies, particularly in radio and television, but still face challenges in production models, content strategy, use of digital platforms, copyright, business models and human resources.

From these practical requirements, as part of the 17th National Radio Festival 2026 in Quang Ninh, Voice of Vietnam organised the international conference to share domestic and international experience and set strategic directions for podcast development among media organisations.

The conference gathered experts in digital audio content, including Andrew Davies of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, Justine Kelly of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Guang Jin Yeo, and MC Nguyen Khang, producer and host of “The Khang Show”.

The event  aims to clarify the role of podcasts in modern radio strategy, promote international experience sharing, and enhance professional capacity and digital transformation thinking among journalists and radio professionals in Vietnam.
