International experts share advanced ECMO techniques in Da Nang
VOV.VN - Nearly 200 domestic and international experts are sharing experience in deploying the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) technique at an international conference on ECMO held by Da Nang Hospital, in collaboration with Mayo Clinic (USA).

Speaking at the event, Dr. Le Duc Nhan, director of Da Nang Hospital, emphasized that ECMO is an advanced medical technology that has saved millions of patients facing critical respiratory and cardiac failure.
However, to apply ECMO effectively and safely, we must continuously research, learn, and exchange knowledge with leading experts, he noted.
Da Nang Hospital has been implementing ECMO since 2017 and has been recognized as the 675th institution worldwide to deploy this technique. Over nearly a decade, the hospital has performed close to 300 ECMO cases, averaging nearly 50 cases per year.
This conference is a valuable opportunity for us not only to enhance our expertise but also to promote the development of ECMO in Da Nang and surrounding areas, Dr. Nhan added.
Professor Dr. Pramod Kumar Guru, Adult ECMO director at Mayo Clinic, highlighted that the conference provides healthcare professionals with training and exposure to the latest ECMO techniques, hands-on practice with expert teams, and comprehensive patient care strategies. In addition, it offers patients access to cutting-edge treatment options.
The conference runs until March 14, featuring various significant activities, including discussions, experience-sharing sessions, and updates on the latest scientific research related to intensive care and ECMO.
Key topics covered include ECMO monitoring, management, anticoagulation, complications, right ventricular dysfunction, ventilator weaning during ECMO, and heart failure treatment.
Doctors from Da Nang Hospital are expected to receive hands-on training in advanced ECMO techniques and gain practical insights from leading international medical experts.
