Inmates permitted to work, get paid outside prisons

VOV.VN - Lawmakers on June 16 approved a resolution that allows prison inmates to attend vocational training course and undertake paid work beyond the detention camp.

Under the adopted resolution, detention camps under the Ministry of Public Security will work alongside domestic organisations to formulate vocational training courses, build infrastructure facilities and develop working plans for the inmates.

Detention camps will be responsible for managing and overseeing the inmates when they work outside.

The inmates will take part in the programme voluntarily and partly get paid for work done.

Businesses will be exempt from corporate income tax levied on revenue they can get from cooperation programmed with detention camps.

The model will be piloted over five years, starting from September 1, 2022.

It does not apply to a number of inmates including those who infringe upon national security, undermine peace, act against humanity and commit war crimes.
