Initiative introduced to protect children on the internet
Children face many risks on the internet, the Workshop on Building a Child Protection Network on the Internet held recently in Hanoi by The ChildFund Vietnam Office (ChildFund), the Institute for Sustainable Management Studies (MSD), and the Vietnet Information and Communications Technology Center (Vietnet) heard.

Besides the positive aspects the internet can bring, there are also risks for children.
A national network of child protection on the internet is a new initiative connecting agencies, organizations and businesses to promote the efforts of stakeholders in protecting children in the network environment.
Within the framework of the workshop, Microsoft Vietnam, ChildFund Vietnam, and the Department of Child Affairs at the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) signed a cooperation agreement on child protection, including child protection on the internet.
Microsoft will support ChildFund in partnership with the Department of Child Affairs in communications, awareness raising, providing knowledge and skills on child protection and child protection in the cyber community, building information systems and technical solutions for child protection, and reporting cases of child abuse.
“The government and other ministries and agencies are always interested in the protection of children, especially protecting children on the internet,”
Mr. Dang Hoa Nam, Director General of the Department of Child Affairs, said in his opening address to the workshop.
“The responsibility for protecting children is not with any one agency or organization, and coordination and cooperation among all parties is needed so that children can enjoy access to information.”
“We are living in a growing world and increasingly face more complex issues,” said Mr. Pham The Truong, General Director of Microsoft Vietnam. “Microsoft is committed to supporting State agencies and NGOs to carry out their missions.
It is hoped that this agreement will encourage the application of IT to address social challenges and constantly improve living conditions, especially for children, thereby promoting equitable development.”
The workshop provided a great deal of useful information for students. “I am very happy to share the opinions of children at this event and I am delighted that all delegates are active in listening and pledging to support and protect children rather than trying to control what they do,” said Ngo Hoang Thuy Linh, a student at Nguyen Tat Thanh High School and representing children at the workshop.
