Indian Consulate General responses to Earth Hour campaign
To commemorate the Earth Hour 2016 in Vietnam, members of the Consulate General of India will have over 60 minutes of electricity switched off on March 19 as part of their commitment to sustainable development.
The consulate has requested members of the Indian community in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate the Earth Hour 2016. The Indian Chamber of Commerce in the city has expressed their commitment to the campaign.
Consul General Smita Pant has highlighted the consulate’s full support for the cause of sustainable development and the importance of having stronger India-Vietnam cooperation in green energy.
The citizens and various organizations in India have been actively participating in the campaign since 2009.

To promote stronger international cooperation in addressing the issue of climate change and to boost solar energy in developing countries, the International Solar Alliance was launched at India’s initiative at the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris on November 30 last year.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at its launch, “The sun is the source of all energy. The world must turn to solar, the power of our future.”
