India extends display of Lord Buddha’s Sarira in Vietnam
VOV.VN - The Government of India has agreed to extend the display of Lord Buddha’s Sarira, a sacred treasure of India, in Vietnam till June 2, following a request from the government of Vietnam, announced the Embassy of India in Vietnam.
The Sarira, one of India’s most revered treasures, has been enshrined at four major spiritual sites across the country, namely Thanh Tam Pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Den Mountain in Tay Ninh province, Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi, and Tam Chuc Pagoda in Ha Nam province from May 2 to May 21
The veneration ceremonies have so far drawn large crowds of Buddhist followers and locals. Notably, from May 13 to 16, Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi welcomed up to 5 million visitors. Similarly, from May 17 to 20, Tam Chuc Pagoda in Ha Nam saw tens of thousands of people daily coming to pay their respects.
To meet the demand of residents and Buddhist followers, the Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs proposed that the Government of Vietnam send a request on an extension of the relic’s stay from May 22 to June 2.
The Indian Government has agreed with the proposal and asked the Vietnamese side to present a schedule of the exhibition after May 21 to facilitate necessary arrangements, including visa extensions for Indian monks and officials, as well as support for ceremonies and security logistics.
Buddha’s Sarira now enshrined at Tam Chuc pagoda for veneration
