Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union sponsored an online job fair in Hanoi on March 11.
Participants discussed implementation of a programme to train 1 million farmers this year, ways to create a breakthrough in social welfare and sustainable development, vocational training, and its obstacles and strategies for creating better-informed workers.
Participating employers said the weaknesses of Vietnamese guest workers are lack of physical strength, limited foreign language and job skills, and poor discipline, helping to explain why Vietnam’s labour export policy for its 65 poorest districts has been slow going.

To deal with the problem, Tao Bang Huy, vice director of the Employment Department, said workers must be equipped with general knowledge, language skills, understanding of the laws of the country where they will work, as well as specific job and living skills.
So far, around 160 businesses have been granted licenses to send workers abroad, said Cao Van Sam, deputy head of the Vocational Training Department. Vietnam expects to send 85,000 workers to 40 countries and territories this year.
The online job fair received more than 400 questions on domestic and foreign recruitment.
