Hue’s Phung Tien palace undergoes restoration with Germany’s support
The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs has provided more than EUR112,500 through the Embassy of Germany in Vietnam for the restoration of Phung Tien palace, part of the world heritage site Hue Citadel, in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.

Work on the restoration began on September 29 and is expected to complete in November, 2018.
Repairs will be made for the palace through fresco restoration technique- a technique of mural painting executed upon freshly laid plaster.
Along with restoration work, the project also focuses on technical training and preservation certificate granting for craftsmen from the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Dung said that financial support from Germany represents productive achievement in the cultural heritage cooperation between the Embassy of Germany in Vietnam and the locality.
Constructed under the reign of King Minh Mang in the 19th century, Phung Tien is among the Nguyen dynasty’s five most important palaces. It was used to worship the Nguyen Dynasty kings and their wives. The majority of the palace has been ruined over the time, except for the foundation, gates and some stonework.
