Hue City honored as national winner in WWF’s One Planet City Challenge
VOV.VN - Hue City in central Vietnam has been honored as a National Winner in the 2026 One Planet City Challenge organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), in recognition of its efforts in climate action and sustainable urban development.
According to WWF, the evaluation was based on cities’ climate reporting through the CDP-ICLEI Track and the OPCC Assessment Framework, recognising cities with progressive visions and credible climate action plans.
“It encourages targets aligned with the Paris Agreement, risk-driven climate adaptation with clear goals and ongoing actions, and the integration of important value chains and city actors in a low-carbon future accessible to all”, the world’s largest independent conservation organisation noted.
WWF also highlighted the participation of government agencies, businesses and local communities in policymaking and the promotion of green, low-emission urban development solutions that balance economic growth, environmental protection and quality of life.
The “National Winner - One Planet City Challenge 2026” title is seen as recognition of Hue’s efforts to build a green, smart and environmentally friendly city, while reinforcing its pioneering role in sustainable development and global climate action.
In the coming years, the city plans to continue promoting sustainable urban development, green transition initiatives, scientific and technological applications, and climate resilience measures as part of its goal of becoming a centrally governed heritage city with green and sustainable growth.
