Ho Chi Minh City, Czech Republic deepen people-to-people ties
VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City on November 5 hosted a gathering to mark the 107th National Day of the Czech Republic (1918-2025), reaffirming close people-to-people ties.
Speaking at the event, Nguyen Muoi, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam-Czech Friendship Association, stressed that Vietnam and the former Czechoslovakia, now the Czech Republic, have maintained a longstanding friendship built on trust, respect and mutual support, and nurtured by generations of leaders and citizens over the past 75 years.
The Vietnamese people always remember the valuable material and moral support offered by Czechoslovakia in the struggle for national liberation, as well as by the Czech Republic in Vietnam’s nation-building efforts. The Czech Republic has also trained many Vietnamese professionals across various fields, many of whom have gone on to hold key positions in state agencies and government bodies.
The year 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the elevation to a Strategic Partnership, opening a new chapter in bilateral ties. Vietnam is currently the Czech Republic’s largest trading partner in ASEAN.
Bilateral investment cooperation is expected to expand further once the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) is ratified and carried out, particularly in areas where the Czech Republic has strengths and Vietnam has strong demand, such as renewable energy, supporting industries, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment.
The Vietnamese community of nearly 100,000 people in the Czech Republic, which has been recognized as the country’s 14th ethnic minority group, serves as an important bridge contributing to the development of traditional friendship between the two nations.
Representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam-Czech Friendship Association expressed appreciation for the support provided by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Vietnam and the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Ho Chi Minh City in facilitating the association’s activities and strengthening people-to-people diplomacy.
On behalf of the Czech Embassy, Ngo Hong Chuyen, Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Ho Chi Minh City, thanked the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) for hosting the event, which shows the warm ties between the people of both sides.
He recalled Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala’s remarks during his meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Prague in January 2025: “The Czech Republic has no closer relationship with any other Asian country than with Vietnam. Our relations are developing successfully, with increasing engagement at many levels.”
He emphasized that bilateral ties are being elevated to a strategic level across culture, tourism, trade and investment, thus delivering practical benefits to both countries’ people.
