Historic flooding causes VND1 trillion damage in Muong Lat

VOV.VN - Seven people have died and hundreds of houses have collapsed in devastating floods and downpours which have hit Muong Lat province in recent days.

According to representatives from Muong Lat district in Thanh Hoa province, people in flood-hit areas will receive aid and assistance over the next two days.

Earlier, with the support from businesses, relevant units transported more than 4 tons of rice and over 700 cartons of instant noodles to residents in Muong Lat district.

Floods have left 7 people dead and many missing, while 139 houses were completely destroyed and 541 houses had to be evacuated.

Fifteen schools, 25 irrigational dams and hundreds of hectares of subsidiary crops have been ruined while thousands of poultry and cattle are buried under rock and mud. The transport system has been crippled by debris and flood damage with total losses estimated at more than VND1 trillion.

Mr Cao Van Cuong, Chairman of Muong Lat district People's Committee said the recovery efforts have been urgently implemented to stabilize people’s lives as swiftly as possible.

This is the 11th day the border district has been isolated as National Highway 15C is still blocked due to a landslide. The complex terrain and immensity of the landslide has presented difficulties in the efforts to clear routes for traffic.
