The Hindi language will be widely taught to Vietnamese students as soon as possible, said Indian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Jitendra Nath Misra at the seminar “Hindi awareness in Vietnam”.

At the seminar on January 25, researchers, lecturers and students discussed the best way for the development of Hindi language tuition in Vietnam.

Dr. Le Tay from Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities said there should be a committee on Hindi researching to help scholars gain more knowledge of Hindi. He encouraged the translation of literary, cultural and historical works from Hindi to Vietnamese and vice versa to promote the mutual understanding between Vietnam and India.

The Hindi language is now being taught only in Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City is helping to open more Hindi classes in Tra Vinh, An Giang, Da Lat, Hue and Danang Universities.

Many researchers agree that there must be lively and practical lessons and other extra-curricular activities to draw more attention to the Hindi language. Thanks to recent scholarships to study in India, Vietnamese students have more chances to learn about Indian culture, history and civilization.

Mr. Misra said apart from the improvement in the methodology, the Indian Embassy and Consulate General in Vietnam will also help Vietnamese students to find jobs in Indian businesses. This is considered a good motivation for their study.
