Himalayan rock salts popular in Vietnam
The Himalayan rock salts is becoming more and more popular for its health benefits in the past recent years in Vietnam, attracting many buyers and profiting businesses.
The most popular item is the salt block used for foot massage. Himalayan salt can also be used as lamps in bedrooms or study rooms. Salt beds are more expensive which mostly used in spas for detoxification or slimming. Himalayan salts are also praised for reducing osteoarthritis pain and helping with blood circulation.
According the sellers, the salt has spent over 250 million years under extreme tectonic pressure and can help restoring fresh air when being placed near computers and other machines or when someone is smoking.
Vietnam hasn't had any official research about Himalayan rock salt's benefits but the demand for the rock salts, especially in the cities, is rising. Both households and businesses prefer using Himalayan rock salts as a Fengshui items at homes or offices.
Huy Nam, a seller in Hanoi, said last year, they previously only imported 30 tonnes of rock salts a month but the total amount has increased to hundreds of tonnes to meet demands from spas and individual buyers.
A 3-kg rock salt placed in a wooden box with two small lamps is sold for VND900,000 (US$40). Sometimes, the carpentry workshops can't work fast enough. Last year, Vietnamese firms imported about 1,500 tonnes of rock salts from Pakistan.
