Higher court upholds prison sentence for anti-State instigator Doan Trang

VOV.VN - An appeals court in Hanoi on August 25 upheld a nine-year prison sentence for anti-State instigator Pham Thi Doan Trang charged with conducting propaganda against the State of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

In its indictment, Trang, born in 1978 and residing in Hanoi’s Dong Da district, made, stored, and distributed documents with anti-State content. In her interviews given to foreign media outlets, she distorted the State’s guidelines and policies, defamed the people’s administration, and spread fabricated information, stirring public concern.

In a trial in December 2021, the instance court of Hanoi sentenced the woman to nine-year jail terms. She later lodged an appeal.

The judge said the defendant’s act was dangerous to society, and the punishment is appropriate to her offence.
