Heavy overnight rain causes widespread flooding in Hanoi
VOV.VN - Heavy overnight rain, triggered by the circulation of Typhoon Matmo (Storm No. 11 in the East Sea), drenched Hanoi and continued into the early hours of October 7, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The capital recorded heavy rain over the past six hours, with rainfall between 40 and 80 mm, even Soc Son and and Thuong Ca areas seeing 116 mm and 91 mm.
Forecasters said that over the next three to six hours, moderate to heavy rain will persist across both inner and outer districts, with some areas expected to receive more than 100 millimeters.

The agency warned of a high risk of widespread flooding in low-lying and urban areas, particularly downtown. Localized intense rainfall exceeding 150 millimeters in just a few hours could also trigger flash floods and landslides in suburban and hilly zones.

Rainfall in the capital is expected to ease from late afternoon through the night.

In other parts of northern Vietnam, mountainous and midland areas will continue experiencing heavy rain and thunderstorms, while the northern delta and Thanh Hoa province are likely to have moderate to heavy rain of 40-70 millimeters. From October 8, rain in northern localities and Thanh Hoa is forecast to gradually subside, with only scattered showers remaining.

Temperatures are forecast to range between 23°C and 28°C in Hanoi, 21-27°C in northern provinces, 28-34°C in central regions, 19-30°C in the Central Highlands, and 24-34°C in southern Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City.
During thunderstorms, residents are advised to stay alert for lightning, whirlwinds, and strong gusts.
