Dozens of people have been killed and injured after heavy rains triggered flash floods and mudslides in the northern provinces of Quang Ninh, Yen Bai, Cao bang, Lao Cai and Lai Chau over the past few days, according to the National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control.

Six deaths were reported in Chan Nua commune of Lai Chau province.
The natural disaster submerged more than 1,100 houses and nearly 1,700ha of rice and subsidiary crops. Many irrigation and transport works were severely damaged.

Local administrations mobilised rescue forces to help repair damaged houses, roads, bridges and irrigation projects, evacuate locals to safer areas, and supply them with rice seeds to restore production.

Sin Ho and Phong Tho districts in Lai Chau province provided VND2 million for each of the victims’ families.
