Minister of Health Trinh Quan Huan said Vietnam is threatened with a high risk of bird flu recurrence as nine out of 10 regional countries have reported fatal cases of bird flu infection in humans.

To prevent a possible bird flu recurrence, the most important thing is that each ministry and sector will have to strictly implement the Government’s urgent instruction on August 8.

Minister Huan said the Government’s urgent telegram underlined the responsibility of each ministry, sector and locality. However, the related ministries, sectors and localities should join efforts in building action plans to minimise and prevent the possible recurrence of the epidemic.

Several Mekong Delta provinces have reported that their poultry stocks have been exposed to H5 virus infection. The Prime Minister has agreed to provide them with more health equipment to fight bird flu infection.
