HCM City university listed among Top 15 Southeast Asia ranking
VOV.VN - The UK-based Times Higher Education (THE), one of the world's largest university ranking organisations, has announced Southeast Asia ranking with the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City becoming the only Vietnamese representative to enter Top 15.
The list unveiled three leading universities of Vietnam, namely the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) ranking 13th regionally, Duy Tan University, 19th, and Ton Duc Thang University, 21st.
Other major institutions from Vietnam appear further down the list. Vietnam National University, Hanoi ranked 41st, while Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City were placed in the 71–80 group.
UEH representatives said the university performed particularly strongly in the research quality indicator, achieving 92.1 out of 100 points. This reflects the high citation rate of UEH’s academic publications and the presence of its research in globally influential scientific journals.
Currently, UEH is ranked 501–600 globally, 136th in Asia, and 13th in Southeast Asia under the THE ranking system.
UEH has also been placed in the 301–400 group worldwide for contributions to the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals, according to the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025. Meanwhile, the QS World University Rankings lists UEH in the 301+ Best Universities in Asia.
The Southeast Asia ranking released by THE is based on data from the Times Higher Education World University Rankings but focuses specifically on universities within the ASEAN region.
It is considered a pilot ranking aimed at providing deeper insight into the development of higher education in Southeast Asia, one of the world’s most dynamic and rapidly growing regions.
Universities are assessed using 18 indicators across five core areas - teaching, research, environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.
Universities in Singapore and Malaysia lead THE’s Southeast Asia ranking. The National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, claim top two places in the table, which analysed 195 higher education institutions from across the region using THE’s World University Rankings methodology.
