Sunday, 11:14, 07/02/2016
Ho Chi Minh City will suspend traffic on many downtown streets from February 7 night until Monday morning for the Tet Lunar New Year fireworks.
A statement from the city’s transport department said it will ban motorbikes from entering the Saigon River Tunnel from 8 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday, which is the first day of the Lunar New Year. A grand firework show will take place at one end of the tunnel on Mai Chi Tho Street at midnight.
From 8 p.m. Sunday until 0:20 a.m. Monday, all vehicles will be banned from the section of Nguyen Tat Thanh Street between Hoang Dieu and Khanh Hoi Bridge. A similar ban will take place on Ton Duc Thang Street (from Me Linh point to Khanh Hoi Bridge), Dong Khoi Street (from Ngo Duc Ke to Ton Duc Thang), and Ham Nghi (from Ho Tung Mau to Ton Duc Thang).
The department also recommended people refrain from stopping or forming crowds on the tunnel roof and bridges in the area for safety reasons.
Ho Chi Minh City has planned Tet fireworks shows at three other spots on the outskirts -- Dam Sen Theme Park, Cu Chi Tunnel and a football stadium in Can Gio District.
