HCM City to assist 7.3 million COVID-19 affected disadvantaged people

VOV.VN - Over 7.3 million underprivileged people in Ho Chi Minh City, regardless of their residence, will receive VND1 million each as part of the city’s third aid package to be implemented to support needy people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The figures were unveiled by Vo Van Hoan, vice chairman of the municipal administration during a meeting held on September 20.

Hoan noted that the third aid package will benefit four groups of residents, namely poor households and economically-disadvantaged households, those who have lost their jobs, those stay at home or are unable to work, and poor labourers residing in temporary accommodation areas.

The third aid package is estimated to cost the city VND7,347 billion. Beneficiaries will receive support in cash, or have it directly transferred into their accounts.

September 19 alone saw Ho Chi Minh City discharge 2,301 COVID-19 patients from hospital, along with 163 cases who passed away due to COVID-19. Since January 1 the southern city has seen 171,502 recoveries and 13,444 deaths caused by the pandemic.

The southern metropolis is currently providing treatment to 41,404 COVID-19 patients, including 2,342 severe cases who rely on mechanical ventilation and 24 patients who need extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) intervention.
