HCM City rolls out six new buses

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City officials acknowledge the city's transportation system is lacking in many respects.

But as the first new buses on a route linking Tan Son Nhat International Airport to the 23/9 Park in the downtown area were unveiled to the public, they pledged better days are coming.

We have a goal to run a first-class bus system in the city, they said. We're not close to that goal yet, but we're heading in the right direction.

The new buses are yellow, quite a contrast from the other green buses of the city and each bus can carry up to 63 passengers.

The bus fare is US$.54 (VND12,000) for rides up to and including 5km and US$.90 (VND20,000) for those over 5km.

The buses meets all European emission standards.

Each bus has automatic anti-jamming devices on its doors, an anti-slip floor, and large luggage spaces.

There are special seats for pregnant women, elderly, children and for those with disabilities.

Each bus is equipped with two security cameras.

There are six news buses in total, all manufactured in the Republic of Korea.

The entire ride from the airport to downtown takes about 45 minutes.
