HCM City outlines response plan to care for up to 500 critically-ill COVID-19 patients

VOV.VN - The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has devised a response plan specifically for a scenario in which the number of COVID-19 patients reaches up to 15,000, including 500 severe cases.

The southern metropolis therefore plans to add more hospital beds and designate the Thu Duc Hospital for COVID-19 Treatment in Thu Duc specifically as a medical facility which provides intensive care for patients in critical condition.

Furthermore, up to 100 intensive care unit (ICU) beds will also be added to Cho Ray Hospital, the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City, along with Pham Ngoc Thach, Trung Vuong, and Thu Duc Hospitals, for the purpose of treating COVID-19 cases.

This comes as the southern city’s daily count of local infections has surged to three digits in recent weeks, with the total number of infections since April 27 exceeding 7,000, thereby making it the country’s largest COVID-19 hotspot. Due to these challenges, Ho Chi Minh City is making every effort to significantly reduce the number of local infections by the end of July.

Moreover, three hi-tech solutions were proposed by the municipal Department of Information and Communications on July 6 as a means of helping to monitor people who are self-quarantining.

The municipal Department of Information and Communications said that it expects these three solutions to help the city monitor how F1 cases follow quarantine rules and promptly send warnings in the event of any violations.

These solutions are scheduled to be piloted in some districts during the first phase which will take place this month. The pilot project will then be extended to all districts as part of the second phase in August.

The move came as the southern metropolis prepares to pilot a scheme in which people who came into close contact with COVID-19 patients, or F1 cases, are allowed to undergo home quarantine instead of mandatory centralised quarantine.
