A meeting to mark the 96th anniversary of the day President Ho Chi Minh left home on a quest for national independence was held at Nha Rong Wharf in Ho Chi Minh City on June 5.

Participants at the meeting were Le Thanh Hai, member of the Party Politburo and Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee; representatives of the People’s Committee, the People’s Council, ministries, agencies, students and school children in the city.

On June 5, 1911, a young Nguyen Tat Thanh left Nha Rong Wharf to find a path to national salvation. After many years of traveling, working, studying and joining in revolutionary activities, the young man returned home to lead the country to victory in the August revolution.

The young man was President Ho Chi Minh, the great leader and teacher of the Vietnamese revolution, the soul of national unity, the hero of national liberation and beloved uncle Ho.

Reviewing the glorious pages of the nation’s history, Nguyen Thanh Rum, director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Information, stressed the significance of the day in Vietnamese history. Being proud of the nation’s great achievements in the 20th century and hoping to see more in the future, Vietnamese people in general, and those in Ho Chi Minh City in particular, vow to follow President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, contributing to making Ho Chi Minh City a modern and civilized reflection on its namesake.

To mark the occasion, the Ho Chi Minh Museum held a festival “Uncle Ho with children” with the aim of introducing cultural activities to children and students during summer 2007.
