HCM City marks Indonesian Independence Day
VOV.VN - On August 24, Indonesia’s 71st Independence Day (August 17) were celebrated by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City.
In his speech at the ceremony, VIFA President Le Ton Thanh praised the positive developments of the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries since they set up diplomatic ties in 1955.
He also highlighted the close relationship between HCM City and Indonesia over recent years, saying that Indonesia is one of the important investors and trade partners of the Vietnamese southern metropolis.
Indonesian Consul General in HCM City Jean Anes in turn, said the bilateral ties between the two countries were lifted to a higher level evidenced by the establishment of a strategic partnership in 2013.
Both nations are set to raise bilateral trade to US$10 billion in late 2018 and have agreed to foster ties across various cooperation activities, particularly in economy, culture and social affairs.
The VIFA and the Indonesian Consulate General in HCM City have worked together on launching a broad array of cultural, sports and charitable activities to intensify people-to-people exchanges.
