HCM City hospital retains Diamond status for stroke care quality

VOV.VN - Gia An 115 Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City has retained Diamond status in the 2026 WSO Angels Awards, the highest level of recognition under the programme for the quality of stroke care.

The recognition, announced at the 18th World Stroke Congress, recently held in Seoul, the Republic of Korea (RoK), marks the hospital’s second Diamond-level award, after it first achieved the distinction in 2024. It is also one of the first two private hospitals in Vietnam to receive Diamond status under the WSO Angels Awards programme.

The awards assess hospitals against clinical performance indicators covering emergency response times, diagnostic imaging, treatment to restore blood flow, patient care and measures to prevent recurrent strokes.

To qualify for Diamond status, hospitals must meet demanding benchmarks for the speed and quality of stroke treatment.

For eligible patients receiving thrombolytic medication to dissolve blood clots, at least 75% must be treated within 60 minutes of hospital arrival, with at least half receiving treatment within 45 minutes.

For patients undergoing mechanical thrombectomy, a procedure to remove a blood clot from a blocked blood vessel, at least 75% of cases must reach the intervention stage within 120 minutes of arrival, while at least 50% must do so within 90 minutes.

The criteria also require at least 90% of patients with suspected stroke to undergo brain imaging using computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). At least 90% of stroke patients must also be screened for swallowing difficulties, which can affect patient safety and care.

Gia An 115 Hospital previously received Gold status in 2021 and Platinum status in 2023 before achieving Diamond status for the first time in 2024. Its latest recognition reflects its continued performance against the programme’s stroke care quality benchmarks.

The hospital applies a range of treatments according to clinical indications, including intensive medical management, thrombolytic therapy, endovascular procedures and neurosurgery.

It has also strengthened coordination among emergency medicine, neurology and stroke care, diagnostic imaging, interventional services and intensive care teams to reduce delays in assessment and treatment.
