HCM City evacuates over 4,000 people as other localities brace for typhoon Usagi

VOV.VN - HCM City People’s Committee has decided to evacuate over 4,000 people in Can Gio district by moving them to safe ground in order to cope with the ongoing developments of typhoon Usagi while other localities have also braced for the storm. 

Thousands of households by the coast in Can Thanh town, Can Gio district, were asked to evacuate to safe shelters before 9am on November 24 to avoid typhoon Usagi.

   The port where vessels are anchored has been blockaded. 

Border guards have taken residents to Can Thanh High School for cover from the typhoon. 
More than 800 fishing boats in Can Gio district have been relocated to safe shelters.
Residents in lowland areas are making hasty preparations as the storm draws in. 

   Residents in coastal areas have also reinforced their houses before the typhoon makes land.

Border guards supported residents in reinforcing their houses on the morning of November 24.

Local authorities arranged buses to take children and the elderly to a safe location in the centre of Can Gio district.

During the early morning of November 24, rains and cold air swept through the streets in Can Gio district. 

Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, also led a working delegation to inspect the typhoon preparations in Can Gio district.

HCM City People’s Committee also suspended all schools in the city from teaching to ensure the safety of both teachers and students
Pupils in Binh Thuan also stayed home from school as all schools on November 24 were closed in order to avoid the typhoon.

Typhoon Usagi is forecast to make landfall in Phu Yen and Binh Thuan provinces at midnight on November 24, causing torrential rain and a high risk of landslides and flashfloods in the south-central and central highlands regions such as Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Binh Thuan, Ben Tre, Khanh Hoa, Ba Ria Vung Tau and Lam Dong.
