Ho Chi Minh City, which received 2.35 million foreign visitors and 3.6 domestic tourists in 2006, mapped out a plan to attract 3.65 million foreigners and 6 million Vietnamese by 2010.
The city has approved a tourism development plan for the 2007-2010 period, targeting a tourism turnover of VND35 trillion by 2010 from VND16.5 trillion in 2006.
Under the plan, relevant departments are required to speed up the implementation of investment projects to diversify tourism products and services at home and abroad.
According to the HCM City Tourism Service, the city is striving to put into use a number of major projects in the 2007-2008 period, including a modern 92,000-sq.m terminal at Noi Bai international airport in Hanoi to receive 12 million passengers a year, and the expansion of the exhibition and fair centre and Rex hotel in Ho Chi Minh City.
