Hanoians in Germany mark Capital Liberation Day, solidify community ties

VOV.VN - The Hanoi Association in Germany hosted an event at Dong Xuan Center in Berlin on October 10 to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of Hanoi’s Liberation Day (October 10, 1954-October 10, 2026) and convene its 8th Congress for the 2026-2028 term.

The gathering drew Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Nguyen Dac Thanh and his spouse, embassy officials, and representatives from various Vietnamese community groups in Berlin and nearby areas.

In his opening speech, Association President Cong Viet Cuong emphasized that despite living thousands of kilometers from home, Hanoians in Germany always turn their hearts toward the capital with love, nostalgia, and pride.

Over its 16-year history, the association has served as a common home for Hanoians living, studying, and working in Germany, helping preserve Hanoi's elegant culture while educating younger generations about their roots.

During the past term, the association actively joined social and charity programs launched by the embassy and the community. Notably, it organized two fundraising drives, donating more than VND100 million (approx. US$4,000) each time to support children with disabilities in Hanoi, alongside relief efforts for natural disaster victims in both Vietnam and Germany.

Addressing the ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Dac Thanh praised the association’s contributions to building a strong and united Vietnamese community in Germany. He urged the new executive board to build on past achievements, foster mutual support, and maintain close ties with the homeland.

On this occasion, Thanh presented commendations to the association and five individual members for their active contributions to community building in 2026.

The event concluded with a music program titled “The Street Corner I Love,” featuring iconic songs about Hanoi by renowned composers including Phu Quang and Hoang Hiep.
