Hanoi to install Km0 milestone near Hoan Kiem lake landmark

VOV.VN - Hanoi plans to place a Km0 milestone in front of the statue of King Ly Thai To in the flower garden area of the same name near Hoan Kiem Lake in the city centre.

The marker will be installed at the center of the ceremonial square of the garden, facing Hoan Kiem Lake, and surrounded by Dinh Tien Hoang, Le Thach, Le Lai, and Ngo Quyen streets. It will be installed after the flower garden area undergoes renovation and refurbishment.

The idea of establishing the Km0 milestone has been under consideration since 2012, when the leader of the city directed relevant departments to study and propose the placement of a Hanoi - Km 0 tower at Hoan Kiem Lake.

In 2020, Hoan Kiem District in collaboration with the Vietnam Fine Arts Association organized a design competition for the Km0 milestone, attracting submissions from architects, painters, and sculptors across the country.

Placing the Km0 milestone at Ly Thai To flower garden not only marks the starting point of major roads but also enhances the historical and cultural significance of the city’s central area.

The renovation project for Ly Thai To flower garden aims to prevent deterioration, upgrade urban facilities, and maximize the historical and cultural value of the Hoan Kiem Lake area.

The project is expected to begin construction in April 2025 and be completed by October 2025.
