Hanoi to have new bridge crossing Red River

Thanh Tri bridge will be open to traffic in time for the Lunar New Year Festival (Year of the Pig). Final elements of the bridge such as the pavement, green tree planting on the central barrier and the lighting system have already been completed. Currently the roads leading to the bridge are almost finished.

Pham Thanh Binh, head of the Thanh Tri bridge construction project under the Thanh Long project management board, said that the Ministry of Transport has decided to put Thanh Tri bridge on a trial run next week. After the trial run, the bridge will officially be open to traffic later this month.

According to Deputy Minister of Transport Pham The Minh, the Ministry has urged the chief investor to open Thanh Tri bridge to traffic before the Lunar New Year Festival.

To boost use of the bridge after it is completed, the Ministry has asked the Government to implement a project to link Thanh Tri bridge to a local by-way after the project was given the green light on September 8.
