Hanoi Red Cross supports Laos’ poor and flood victims

VOV.VN - The Hanoi Red Cross Society (HRCS) is conducting a wide range of activities from August 22-24 to share experience with its Vientiane counterpart and to offer support for Laos’ poor and victims of the recent floods.

Through the Vientiane Red Cross, HRCS donated VND50 million to the flood recovery fund, following the devastation caused by the collapse of the Sepien-Senamnoi hydropower dam in Attapeu province.

It presented 100 gifts worth VND1 million each to poor households in Sangthong district and nearly VND90 million to build a house for a 96-year-old local, Bun Su, who had studied and served in the army in Vietnam.

The society also offered five breeding cows to poor families in Hattay hamlet, providing a boost to their household economy.

During the three-day Laos trip, the HRCS delegation will run a first aid training course for 50 kindergarten and primary teachers in Sangthong district and share experience in red cross operations and humanitarian work with their Vientiane counterpart.

Nguyen Si Truong, HRCS chairman, said he hopes their experiences will help the Vientiane Red Cross operate more effectively in the near future.
