Hanoi police will keep the capital city safe during the time of the ASEAN Summit and related meetings, said Major General and Director of the Hanoi Police Department, Nguyen Duc Nhanh, in a recent interview granted to a Voice of Vietnam (VOV) reporter.
Reporter: Could you please tell us about plans to tighten security in the capital city during the upcoming ASEAN meetings?
Mr Nhanh: Under the guidance of the Ministry of Public Security, Hanoi municipal leaders and the Vietnam National Committee for ASEAN 2010, we have launched a score of measures to ensure top security for all ASEAN meetings as well as for the guest houses where international delegates will stay during the event. We will do our best to fulfill all foreign affairs tasks entrusted to us by the Party and State.
Reporter: Could you elaborate on these measures?
Mr Nhanh: We have worked out a detailed anti-crime plan and fire and explosion prevention and control to ensure security in hot spots and combat acts of sabotage.
Reporter: What feedback has the Hanoi Police received after they have been successfully protecting major international events in the capital city over the past few years?
Mr Nhanh: Over the past few years, top security has been ensured for all major meetings in Hanoi, particularly the 14th APEC Meeting, and this has received acclaim from international friends. The world media praised Vietnam for ensuring security and safety for this meeting. Many delegates wrote in the visitors’ book about their good impression of Vietnam. We will spare no effort to fulfill security tasks during the ASEAN meetings in the near future.
Reporter: Thank you so much.
