Hanoi police bust Cambodian drug ring, charge 98 people
VOV.VN - Hanoi police have dismantled a major drug trafficking ring running from Cambodia through Hung Yen province to the capital, arresting and handling 137 people while uncovering gold and real estate money laundering schemes.
The Hanoi Police Department announced on November 4 that its Drug Crime Investigation Office, working alongside specialized units and local forces, successfully broke up the cross-province operation.
Investigators identified 11 supply and distribution links within the network, spanning major wholesalers to retail channels across the city. Ring members notably funneled drug proceeds into gold and real estate transactions to launder illicit profits.
Police forces seized more than 39 kilograms of various drugs, one firearm, and 10 rounds of ammunition. Out of 137 people processed, 98 have been formally charged with five criminal offenses, including illegal possession, trafficking, organizing illegal drug use, illegal drug use, and money laundering. The remaining 39 people were sent to compulsory drug rehabilitation.
