Hanoi meeting marks World Environment Day

VOV.VN - A meeting was held at the Green One UN House in Hanoi on June 3 to mark World Environment Day (June 5).

The event was jointly held by the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DoNRE), the municipal Women’s Union, the World Health Organisation (WHO), and the UN Development Programme.

The meeting, that was attended by individuals, representatives of socio-political organisations, and and community-based organisations, is to enhance communication effectiveness, improve environmental quality, protect people’s health, balance ecological systems and develop a sustainable economy.

Addressing the launching ceremony, Nguyen Minh Tan, deputy director of the DoNRE, shared that  World Environment Day 2024 focuses on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.

He stressed that Hanoi has recently implemented a number of environmental protection solutions, to boost air quality and improve waste management, including plastic wastes.

However, environment pollution in Hanoi slowly improving, he called on the community, businesses, social organisations, and state management agencies to join hands in environmental protection work.

World Environment Day on June 5 is launched annually by the UN to preserve the pure environment for the sake of humanity.
