Many parking lots in Hanoi face closure under a new city ban on the use of pavement and roads for parking vehicles in more than 260 streets.
The municipal administration’s ban taking effect on February 15 stipulates that pavements and roads can no longer block footpaths or roads and that their licences will be revoked if violations are reported.
The ban was brought in to try and ease traffic chaos and create more rooms for pedestrians, who are forced to climb over vehicles or walk on the roads to avoid parked vehicles.
Hanoi is home to about 3.8 million motorbikes and almost 400,000 cars. Among them, about 184,000 cars and 2.3 million motorbikes are operating in inner city.
