Hanoi has approved a comprehensive plan to restore the environmental quality and develop four major urban rivers – the To Lich, Kim Nguu, Lu, and Set reverine environments.

According to the plan approved on July 22, 32 programmes and projects will be implemented between 2025 and 2030.

The initiatives will focus on preventing and controlling pollution, establishing a balanced and ecological urban river system, improving architectural landscapes, and promoting capacity and public awareness.

Key projects under the plan include the Yen Xa wastewater treatment project, the construction of a wastewater collection system for the S1 basin that feeds into the Yen So treatment plant, and proposals for water replenishment solutions for the Kim Nguu, Lu, and Set rivers. The municipal Department of Agriculture and Environment will lead implementation efforts, coordinating with relevant departments to oversee progress and report annually.

Based on the approved list of priority programmes and projects, responsible agencies are tasked with developing yearly action plans and budgeting proposals for approval by the competent authorities.
