Hanoi is striving to raise families of social policy beneficiaries’ living standards to an equal or higher level than the current average in their residence area, said Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Le Toan Khang at a press briefing held in Hanoi on April 20.

According to statistics, some 177 poor households and families of social policy beneficiaries are living in Hanoi and receiving local support and assistance to escape from poverty. Of that number, up to 99 households are in the city’s poorest district of Soc Son.

The Hanoi Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has coordinated with the Department of Finance to provide a regular allowance of VND100,000 per person for poor families looking after the elderly and handicapped.

Districts and wards in the city have called on agencies, units and philanthropists to contribute VND2.3 billion to the Fund of “Paying Debts of Gratitude” to build and repair 32 houses for families of social policy beneficiaries.
